Take - away

... is a term loaded with a montage of implications. A food of convenience, the feeling of residual grease from a plastic box, a form of careless consumption, a cheap and disposable habit, the notion of impermanence, the act of removal, the absence left over...

This space welcomes the exploration of the tension and disconnect between the broad social stereotyping of culture and an intimate engagement with personal history. The objects are made form materials that are typically commonplace and tactile, reconfigured to invite interaction.

We all arrive with our own unique emotional and physical experiences which can inform our outlook and understanding. Although these works have intensely personal origins, how does its meaning transform and translate between us? What is the value lost and gained?

Ultimately, what is it that we take away from culture? Our memories? Our relationships? What happens when we take away history? Context? What is taken? Where does it go? What is left?

A solo exhibition held as part of the Blyth Arts Fellowship.

Curated by Mindy Lee, installation by Joe Packer.
